Table of Contents June 14 General Meeting Minutes Trip Reports Cecilia Gill: Labor Day on the Sabine River |
DISCLAIMER: Before any "purists" start having "problems" with a motor being put on a canoe (this is a PADDLING club, afterall!) and start sending all sorts of unnecessary emails about it or trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH!!!!! POINT #1: Joe has not one, but TWO torn rotor cuff muscles. (shoulder, for those who aren't sure what that means). Lonnie is but 5, and Morgan is a tender 2 and a half. I could, I suppose, but I have no intention of paddling a big expedition canoe loaded with ice chests and camping gear and 3 other people by myself. Not "No", but "H*** No"! I am a fairly strongish paddler, but, come on!!! POINT #2: The whole reason I got into this sport was to have fun and enjoy myself in wonderful places! I still paddle, when I'm not trying to haul 47 tons of gear and people down a river, of course! I don't care about politically correct, politically correct offends me. I don't give a crap about mileage. That's not why I paddle or do trips like this. POINT #3: On a camp-out-of-the-boat type trip like this, it is always a good thing to be able to get someone out in a hurry if need be. A motor, even a tiny little 2.5 like mine, is faster than the fastest paddler... and what if it happened to be the fastest paddler that was the one who needed help? Plus, some people may have taken on a little more than they could chew and needed a little assistance. It never hurts to have a "support" boat. We will have our rig on the Labor Day Sabine River Trip, too, just so's ya know. So if there's anyone who has anything to say about motors on canoes, BITE YOUR TONGUE CLEAN OFF RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!! I don't want to hear it, and really don't care. And yes, WE WERE ALL BAREFOOT THE WHOLE TIME. Most everyone else was, too.
