Coming Events and Programs

June: Swap Meet
One of the best places to get gear is from other paddlers. Bring that gear you never use and swap it for what you need. Newcomers, this is your opportunity to get outfitted. The club offers this as a program for free.
July: All About Alligators
Don Greene, owner of the Whitewater Experience, who has paddled most Texas rivers in the past 30 years is bringing Kevin L. Malonson, Regional IV, District III Game Warden to tell us about alligators. Awesome as they are, the critters don’t make good pets and you might want to know how to handle an encounter. The game warden will tell us about the legal aspects of feeding or playing with wild animals. Be sure to come for some important information and great humor.
Lake Charlotte Paddle Post-poned to May 22
Ken Anderson has changed the date of his Lake Charlotte paddle to May 22nd. Meet at 9 under the I-10 Trinity River bridge (northeast side). Contact Ken Anderson by phone 281-856-9388, or by email klandrsn@hal-pc.org
Other Trips
Be sure to check out all the other great trips on our trip listing. It changes frequently now, thanks to Fraser's adding an easy method of updating it, so you might want to check it more often than in the past. May 21 is Marsh Mania sponsored by the Galveston Bay Foundation. Memorial Day weekend has two options: the whole weekend on the Sabine River or just Memorial Day on the Colorado in the annual "buddy paddle". See the trip listing for details.
Packing Tips
The Sun and Ski presentation last month was interesting and informative. Let’s take that topic a step further. What should a person pack for a river trip? Send your list to sherrib57@hotmail.com Or Sherri Blifford, 10222 Windsor Lane, Houston, TX 77031. I’d like to compile all the lists into one and post it for everyone to use. On every trip, I’ve discovered something that was helpful or something I was sorry I hadn't brought. Let’s make it easy for our Newbies to get organized.
