What is this?
Mussel sampling and identification training with USFWS in a diverse stretch of the lower Brazos. Perhaps as little as 4 miles paddling.
Full description: Charrish Stevens of USFWS will be doing a mussel sampling and identification training for Lower Brazos Riverwatch starting at the 1458 bridge on the Brazos. This is at San Felipe. Bring light weight, rubber-fingered garden gloves, if available. Also snorkeling gear may be useful. There is a limit of ten for this, since there will also be a couple of my graduate students and some other environmental folks. If people are so inclined, we can wrap this up by running through the small rapids and taking out at I-10. LBRW will provide lunch for participants. This is an attempt to finally do what was originally listed as M&M 9. Note that we are going to try and hold firm on the date, so may change the location if the Brazos gets ugly on us.
Skill Level: Novice. Generally flat water, and not overly long. Could be some more interesting things exposed at really low flows though.
Meet on the west side of the FM 1458 bridge on the Brazos
